Martyn had spent much of his life in turmoil. Growing up in care, he experienced a chaotic upbringing filled with instability and a lack of consistent support. His unresolved anger and deep mistrust of others eventually led to criminal behaviour, landing him in prison for a serious offense. Upon his release, Martyn struggled to find direction, and his probation officer, feeling out of options, referred him to our Life-Changer Mentoring Programme.
At first, Martyn was skeptical and resistant, unwilling to open up or trust the process. He was paired with a mentor who had worked with many individuals from similar backgrounds. They approached Martyn with patience and understanding, giving him the time and space to feel comfortable. Slowly, through consistent, non-judgmental support, Martyn began to open up, sharing his frustrations and fears.
Together, they worked on strategies to manage Martyn’s anger and build his confidence. Martyn was introduced to techniques for coping with stress and was encouraged to focus on his future goals. Over time, Martyn enrolled in a training program for plumbing, an area he found interesting.
Seven months later, Martyn had not only completed his training but had also secured an apprenticeship. He regained trust in others and began building a stable, hopeful future.
Great work, Martyn!
