Lucy, a mother of two, had recently served a short prison sentence for drug possession. Her offense was tied to her former partner, who was involved in dealing drugs, and she had become entangled in his activities. While her time in prison was brief, it had a profound impact on her confidence, family life, and ability to provide for her children. Struggling to move forward and rebuild her life, Lucy was referred to our Life-Changer Mentoring Programme by a friend who had heard about our service.
Through the programme, Lucy was matched with a mentor experienced in supporting women affected by the criminal justice system. They provided Lucy with emotional support, helping her process the guilt and stigma associated with her past, and together, they worked on practical steps to rebuild Lucy’s life, including developing a stable routine for her children and identifying career opportunities that matched her strengths.
They were also able to help Lucy reconnect with community resources, such as parenting support groups and childcare services, which alleviated some of her immediate pressures. With her mentor’s encouragement, Lucy enrolled in a training course for administrative work, gaining new skills and boosting her confidence.
Within five months, Lucy secured part-time employment and began to rebuild her life, offering stability and hope for her family’s future.
Good luck, Lucy!
