Following release from prison, John struggled with finding work due to his criminal record, dealing with substance abuse, and repairing damaged family relationships. Despite his desire to do better this time, he lacked the support needed.
John self-referred to our Life-Changer mentoring programme, after seeing our flier in his local probation office and was soon receiving the support he needed to get things moving again, this time in the right direction.
We provided emotional support and a safe space for John to discuss his challenges, which boosted his self-esteem and motivation. We also connected John with a local men’s group for additional support around the issues men face in our society.
In addition, we helped John with job readiness, including updating his CV and preparing him for interviews. Together, we worked on developing soft skills like communication and time management, and with help, John began to rebuild his relationships with his family, which in turn gave him emotional stability.
The mentoring program also helped John secure stable housing, giving him a solid foundation. Within three months, John found full-time work in construction and his family relationships are continuing to improve. He has gained confidence in his ability to overcome challenges and feels strong and capable enough to say goodbye to us.
Good luck John!
