Nick was serving a community sentence when we met him. His probation officer recognized his potential to change and referred him to our Life-Changer Mentoring Programme.
Through the programme, Nick was paired with a mentor, someone experienced in supporting young adults facing the kinds of challenges that Nick shared with us. Together, we co-created a safe and non-judgmental space for Nick to share his experiences and emotions. By identifying the root causes of his anger, including feelings of inadequacy and a lack of purpose, a plan for progression was formed.
We worked with Nick on strategies to manage his emotions, including practical techniques for anger control and constructive ways to express frustration. We also explored Nick’s interests and goals, leading to enrollment in a vocational training program for car mechanics, a field Nick was passionate about.
Over nine months, Nick transformed his outlook. He completed his training, secured an apprenticeship, and began rebuilding his family relationships. With our guidance, Nick replaced impulsive behaviours with confidence and a sense of purpose.
Commitment pays.
